Community-Wide Read Alouds
The Community-Wide Read-Aloud program spotlights reading across Central Alabama. We mobilize hundreds of volunteers on a single day to read aloud to students in every pre-k through the fifth-grade classroom in each school system we serve.
Volunteers read a high-interest, age-appropriate book to each class or group and then provide every child with a copy for their home libraries. In addition, we leverage our relationships with news organizations to publicize the events to promote reading with children further.
Our goal is to elevate the importance of reading with and to children in the wider community. In 2023, we read to over 13,000 children and gave a free book to each of them.
