Book Nooks
The Book Nooks by Better Basics initiative is one of our community literacy outreach programs. Better Basics places and dedicates Book Nooks in economically challenged areas of the metro-Birmingham area to serve communities with access to free books and to encourage reading. Our motto is, “Take a book; you don’t have to leave a book!” The Better Basics staff and volunteers replenish the Book Nooks regularly.
Better Basics maintains 50 Book Nooks in Jefferson, St. Clair, and Shelby counties. We kept them stocked with approximately 4000 books in the 2023-2024 year.
