Studies show low-income students lose about two months of grade level equivalency in math and reading skills over the summer months. More than half of the achievement gap between lower- and higher-income youth can be explained by unequal access to summer learning opportunities. As a result, low-income youth are less likely to graduate from high school or enter college. Better Basics partners with community organizations and schools to deliver high-quality reading and math enrichment programming during the summer months. Our camps keep students’ minds active through high-interest experiential learning activities and enrichment programs.
