The Reading Intervention program targets students who read below their grade levels. In order to improve students’ reading skills, a qualified and trained Better Basics teacher works with students in small groups to provide the individual attention a student needs to succeed. Volunteers provide one-on-one tutoring for additional students.
Through this accelerated, targeted intervention program, students are able to improve their reading scores quickly. Students typically meet three times per week for 45 minute sessions. After 20 weeks of participation, approximately 80 percent of students show at least a 1.0 grade-level improvement in their reading scores.
