Better Basics partners with the Junior League of Birmingham each year for the Birmingham Reads project that is designed to inspire all of Birmingham to pick up a book and read.
Birmingham Reads Day is scheduled for Thursday, April 21, 2016 at 1 p.m. Birmingham Reads is an event held each spring, when hundreds of volunteers visit students in pre-kindergarten through fifth-grade classes in Birmingham City Schools to read to the children. Each class is assigned a volunteer reader, and each student receives a book to take home to start, or add to, his or her home library. For more information or to sign up to read at your favorite Birmingham City elementary school, contact Kathleen Drake at email@example.com.

Additionally, during the month of April, you can participate in the Birmingham Reads Book Drive. We will be collecting new and gently used children’s books that will be distributed to students through Better Basics’ programs. Many schools and businesses organize books drives during April to support theBirmingham Reads Book Drive Challenge. If your group, school, or company is interested in being a part of the Birmingham Reads Book Drive Challenge, please contact Sherri Blank at firstname.lastname@example.org.
