Birmingham Reads 2017

Birmingham Reads 2017

Birmingham Reads in an annual city-wide celebration of reading and a collaborative program of Better Basics, the Junior League of Birmingham, and Scholastic.

On Birmingham Reads Day, a single hour of your time can ignite a passion for learning!

Last year on Birmingham Reads Day, 692 volunteers visited 626 classrooms and read to over 13,000 students.

Also as a part of Birmingham Reads, over 45,000 books were donated to the children served by Better Basics.

We invite you to get involved in the following ways:

– Donate books online by visiting www.scholastic.com/betterbasics.

– Host a book drive where employees donate new or gently used children’s books.

– Gather a group of volunteers to read on Birmingham Reads Day, April 20, 2017 at 1:00 P.M.

– Become a friend of Birmingham Reads by financially supporting the work of Better Basics.

For more information on how to participate, please contact Kathleen Drake at volunteer@betterbasics.org or (205)944-2928.
