Birmingham Reads

Better Basics is excited to team up with the Junior League of Birmingham, the Children’s Literacy Guild and The Literacy Council to inspire all of Birmingham to pick up a book and read.  Birmingham Reads is a two-part event slated for April 2012.

On April 19th, hundreds of volunteers will flood into Birmingham City elementary schools to read to students.  Each elementary classroom will be assigned a volunteer, and each students will be given a book to take home to add to, or start, their own home library.

Then, join us on April 21st at Brookwood Colonial Mall where we will celebrate reading with a fun day focused on families and literacy.  It will be the culmination of Birmingham’s Biggest Book Drive.  The book drive offers everyone in the the community a chance to provide books that will be distributed to children in need in our community.
